What Fabric brings together
Microsoft Fabric combines data and analytics services in a SaaS platform, with OneLake as a shared logical storage foundation. Data engineering, integration, analytics and Power BI can work within the same environment. Microsoft describes this integration in its official overview.
The trade-offs still belong to you
A shared platform does not automatically resolve business definitions, permissions or source quality. Before migrating, we recommend selecting one concrete process, such as a monthly indicator used by management. Document its sources, owners and required freshness.
Then assess the complete scenario: compute, storage, transfers and operations. The OneLake consumption documentation distinguishes storage from operations that consume capacity. A low-volume demonstration is therefore insufficient to predict a production bill.
Decide using measured results
Our recommendation is to compare a pilot with the current process using the same data and criteria. Measure preparation time, result reliability, required permissions and operational effort. Keep a rollback plan. Adoption makes sense when observed benefits outweigh migration costs and new dependencies.
